Our Client is looking for an ambitious Sensors Applications Engineer for their new product development team. The Application Engineer role requires an independent drive and entrepreneurial spirit to drive growth in their North American market. The Application Engineer will be responsible for understanding customer applications and product requirements.
With this acquired knowledge, they will drive R&D / new product initiatives and provide technical support to customers. They will apply basic knowledge of engineering principles and practices in the design, development, analysis and release of products throughout the product life cycle.
The Application Engineer will work with client’s global engineering teams, and other cross-functional disciplines, in creating design specifications based on customer requirements. They will also be involved in resolving product quality issues at the customer. The Application Engineer is expected to support the engineering, sales and marketing departments. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of sensors, possess excellent communication skills, and bring an enthusiasm for the automotive industry and applications.

Grow opportunities across Automotive Sensor Products portfolio at Global OEMs in North America.
Establish strong relationships with existing customer base at all levels; understand their business strategy and customer applications and how our client can participate and how their products apply.
Communicate business and technical information between the customer and our client.
Identify decision makers and their influence on awarding business within various disciplines (engineering, purchasing, quality, and manufacturing)
Develop strategy for closing business at customer.
Understand competition’s strengths and weaknesses
Find new business opportunities and participate with cross functional teams to drive business closure and execution on new program. Understand new opportunities for which our client may participate but doesn’t currently have a product (new markets) to get the best customer solution
Interface with customers and internal teams to define and help design and deliver working solutions that fulfill customer requirements.
Support existing customers on new product development projects under development.
Develop and maintain an in-depth technical understanding of the client’s products and competitor product offerings.
Act as key customer interface with an emphasis on technical problem solving and actively participate in new product ideas and development.
Support design reviews, both customer and internal, as required; this includes conducting drawing and specification reviews with customers.
Support failure analysis examinations and prepare Failure Analysis Reports (FAR) of findings.
Ensure projects meet customer requirements and quality standards.
Create Design Failure Modes and Effects analysis (FMEA).
Make recommendations for changes, enhancements, and improvements.
Perform engineering analyses. Review product specifications and utilize computer aided engineering (CAE) applications to apply conditions, replicate performance, and evaluate the manufacturability of products.
Help develop and refine 'standard' product configurations that capitalize on the company's strengths and products.
Establish strong relationship with our client's Global Engineering centers
Be a link between their customers and our global engineering teams.
Able to travel 50% of the time
Sales and Marketing Responsibilities:
Respond to requests for proposals and assist in the preparation of quotations for standard and custom products.
Document and evaluate customer feedback for quality analysis.
Conduct research and attend user conferences to learn about new and emerging applications and technology.
Prepare white papers and other technical material to help educate sales personnel and ensure proven system solutions are proposed and delivered.
Provide onsite technical assistance to the sales team at industry trade shows and customer demonstrations.
Negotiate technical specifications.
BS in engineering is required (Mechanical or Electrical).
5+ years of application experience in mechanical, automotive or vehicle testing preferred.
A background which includes analog electronics would be an advantage.
A knowledge and familiarity around product development (e.g. Design Validation, Product Validation, Production Approval), manufacturing processes and practices (e.g. over-molding, soldering...), would be an advantage.
